Sasha Obradovic Brings Intense Basketball Focus to Hapoel Jerusalem Coaching Role
Hapoel Jerusalem made a significant coaching change during the offseason by replacing Yonatan Alon with Sasha Obradovic, a highly regarded and experienced EuroLeague coach. Obradovic, known for his deep basketball knowledge and intense dedication, is expected to bring a very different dynamic to the team. Red Star Belgrade captain Ognjen Dobric, who played under Obradovic last season, praised his comprehensive understanding of the game and his ability to find solutions to basketball challenges. However, Dobric also noted that Obradovic’s approach is so immersive, he lives basketball 24 hours a day, that not all players can keep up with him.
Dobric explained that many players were frustrated because Obradovic sometimes substituted them even when they performed well, as he seemed to prioritize his game plan over the flow on the court. Despite frequent constructive conversations between the two, Obradovic remained committed to his system and coaching style. Dobric suggested that Obradovic’s method could be effective if given enough time, such as two to three years with the same team. Obradovic had previously returned to coach Red Star Belgrade in October but was dismissed at the end of the season. His second tenure at his youth club ended prematurely, but his coaching philosophy continues to attract attention.
