Two Young Men Charged in Fatal Shooting at Tamer Hair Salon Mistaking Victim for Relative

Israeli police have charged two young men, a 17-year-old minor and a 19-year-old relative, in connection with the fatal shooting of a hairdresser in Tamer on July 7. The incident occurred inside a hair salon on the city’s main street, where the 34-year-old victim, Yasser Abu Elhija, was shot and killed. Another customer, aged 39, was seriously injured during the attack.

Investigations revealed that the shooting was a case of mistaken identity during a planned revenge attack targeting the minor’s uncle, who was also present at the salon. The assailants arrived on electric bicycles, and the younger suspect fired the shots before fleeing the scene. Police quickly focused on a violent family feud as the motive.

About ten days after the shooting, authorities recovered the bicycles, helmet, and clothing used by the suspects, hidden in a container. The investigation intensified, leading to the suspects’ arrest on July 19. Evidence from the minor’s cellphone included a photo of him holding two handguns. The Haifa District Prosecutor’s Office is set to file a severe indictment against both suspects and request their detention until the trial concludes.

This case highlights ongoing issues of violence within the Arab community in Israel, with authorities continuing efforts to combat such crimes.
