Chief Rabbis Launch Nationwide Initiative to Strengthen Public Engagement Inspired by Rabbi Kook

On the anniversary of Rabbi Abraham Isaac Kook's passing, the Chief Rabbinate Council of Israel convened to announce a new initiative aimed at expanding direct engagement between rabbis and the public across the country. Rabbi Kook, the founder of the Chief Rabbinate, emphasized the importance of the institution's influence on all sectors of Israeli society.

Rabbi David Yosef, the Sephardic Chief Rabbi of Israel, highlighted the need to strengthen unity through open and positive dialogue with the public. Meanwhile, Rabbi Kalman Bar, the Ashkenazi Chief Rabbi and president of the Chief Rabbinate Council, called for continuing Rabbi Kook's "rabbis' journey" by visiting communities and settlements nationwide. He stressed that the rabbinate's role extends beyond religious administration to fostering a connection between the public and Jewish learning and tradition.

Rabbi Bar insisted that this initiative must involve widespread outreach, stating, "The rabbis' journey must continue in every community and every place." Rabbi Yaakov Shapira supported the plan, sharing his experience meeting with about 300 pilots, which underscored the value of direct public interaction. The Chief Rabbinate now aims to implement this concept through organized visits and meetings with communities, seeking to reinforce the bond between the Chief Rabbinate and the broader public.
