Agent Reveals Why Maccabi Tel Aviv Did Not Sign Douglas Aveso Before Hapoel Tel Aviv Deal

Following Douglas Aveso's signing with Hapoel Tel Aviv, rumors circulated about his potential move to Maccabi Tel Aviv. Nir Amir, the agent who offered Aveso to several Israeli clubs including Maccabi, clarified the behind-the-scenes details. He explained that Maccabi was very familiar with Aveso and had him highly ranked on their list, especially as a left-footed right winger, a profile they sought. However, at the time of the offer, Maccabi lacked a professional manager to finalize decisions.

Once Steve Vanharen was appointed as the professional manager, Maccabi expressed strong interest in Aveso but faced a roster challenge, having nine foreign players already registered. This situation delayed any new foreign signings, despite the club's willingness and budget to acquire him. Amir noted that when Hapoel Tel Aviv entered negotiations through agent Stav Hachmon, he stepped back to avoid a bidding war, which neither Maccabi nor Hapoel wanted.
