Jerusalem rabbis rally support for state-funded-free Torah college
A formal gathering was held today at the home of Rabbi Yehoshua David Torchin to strengthen support for a prestigious Torah kollel founded by the late Rabbi Yitzchak Tuvia Weiss, the chief rabbinical judge of the Edah HaHareidis in Jerusalem.
The institution is described as operating entirely on a strict religious footing, with its scholars and advanced students receiving no state funding or support at all. Their livelihood depends solely on the salaries they are paid by the kollel.
A large and respected group of admorim and rabbis attended to show backing for what was presented as Rabbi Weiss’s life’s work and to encourage the students who study under difficult conditions. The event was marked by a particularly emotional moment when Rabbi Yaakov Meir Shechter, regarded as an elder among Breslov rabbis, arrived despite severe weakness and honored the gathering with words of Torah.
