Israeli Government Conditions Ultra-Orthodox School Funding on Full Curriculum Compliance and Oversight

The Israeli Attorney General, Gali Baharav-Miara, submitted the state's response to the Supreme Court regarding funding for ultra-Orthodox (Haredi) educational institutions. The response makes clear that government funding will no longer be automatic but contingent on strict enforcement of full core curriculum requirements and adherence to oversight measures.

The Ministry of Education's data reveals significant gaps in Haredi schools' fulfillment of mandatory core curriculum teaching and deficiencies in monitoring and enforcement capabilities. Consequently, the state declared that continued funding under the "All the Children of Israel" principle will require full compliance with fundamental obligations imposed on these institutions.

These new, stringent conditions, effective from the current school year, mandate complete core curriculum instruction as defined by the official education program, employment of properly qualified teaching staff, full participation in assessment and evaluation frameworks, cooperation with supervision and enforcement mechanisms, and rigorous fulfillment of all reporting duties.

This move signals a shift toward greater accountability and integration of ultra-Orthodox schools within the national education standards, aiming to address longstanding concerns about educational disparities and oversight challenges.
