Israeli Attorney General Demands State Funding for Ultra-Orthodox Schools Only with Core Curriculum Compliance

The Israeli Attorney General, Gali Baharav-Miara, has submitted the government's response to the Supreme Court regarding funding for ultra-Orthodox educational institutions. The response highlights significant gaps identified by the Ministry of Education in these schools' fulfillment of their obligation to teach the full core curriculum. It also points to deficiencies in the state's ability to monitor and enforce these educational requirements.

Consequently, the government states that continued funding under the principle of "all Israeli children" will be conditional on these schools meeting fundamental obligations. These include delivering the complete core curriculum as defined by the official education program, employing qualified teaching staff, fully participating in assessment and evaluation systems, cooperating with oversight and enforcement mechanisms, and fulfilling reporting duties. These conditions are set to take effect starting from the current academic year.

This move reflects ongoing efforts by the Israeli government to ensure that ultra-Orthodox schools provide education aligned with national standards while maintaining state funding.
