Beitar Jerusalem Eliminated in Dramatic Penalty Shootout Against Austria Vienna in Europe

Beitar Jerusalem's European campaign ended in a tense penalty shootout loss to Austria Vienna at the Generali Arena in Vienna on Thursday. After 120 minutes of intense play, the Israeli club leveled the aggregate score to 3-3 following a 2-1 victory in the match, but ultimately fell in the shootout. This result knocked Beitar out of the UEFA Conference League third qualifying round, while Austria Vienna advanced to the playoff round to face Braga from Portugal.

Beitar entered the match trailing 2-1 from the first leg in Romania but showed strong tactical discipline and resilience. Luka Gadrani returned to the defense, and Nevo Shudo replaced the injured Yarden Cohen. In the 33rd minute, Omer Atzili scored a stunning curling goal from 18 meters to equalize the aggregate. Early in the second half, Atzili and Jhonbusco Calu combined for a second goal, giving Beitar a 2-0 lead in the match. However, Austria Vienna quickly responded with a goal by Kelvin Osu Boateng after a defensive error.

The remainder of the match was filled with dramatic moments, including a disallowed goal for Yarden Shua and several missed chances by Beitar during extra time. Both Eugene Ansah and Timo Muzi missed close-range penalty opportunities during the shootout, while Austria Vienna's goalkeeper Samuel Sahin-Radlinger made two crucial saves. Despite Beitar's spirited performance, the shootout ended in their elimination.

Beitar Jerusalem will now focus on their domestic league campaign, while Austria Vienna moves on to the next stage of European competition.
