Skulen Hasidic Leaders Yield Honor Seat to Brother-in-Law at Jerusalem Memorial

This week, the Skulen Hasidic courts commemorated the yahrzeit (anniversary of passing) of the Skulen Rebbe, the Noam Eliezer, in Jerusalem. The Skulen Rebbe of Lakewood, visiting Israel, led the memorial meal at the Skulen synagogue in Jerusalem alongside his brother, the Skulen Rebbe of Jerusalem. A notable and moving scene unfolded at the head table, where instead of the two Rebbes occupying the place of honor, they ceded the seat to their elder brother-in-law, Rabbi Dov Stern, the Skulen rabbinical judge (Av Beit Din) in Bnei Brak and son-in-law of the late Rebbe. The two brothers insisted on honoring Rabbi Stern by seating him centrally at the table, while they sat beside him and conducted the tish (Hasidic gathering) together. This act reflected the Talmudic teaching that true greatness lies in humility, as the Holy One grants the world to the humble.
