Google Unveils Pixel Watch 5 With Advanced Health AI and Offline Features
Google has introduced the Pixel Watch 5, maintaining the familiar design of its smartwatch series while adding significant software, health, and artificial intelligence capabilities. The watch is priced starting at $399, a $50 increase from the previous generation, with sales beginning on August 20. A standout health feature is the Breathing Emergency Detection, which monitors unusual drops in oxygen levels related to breathing and alerts pre-set contacts if a dangerous condition is detected. Google emphasizes this feature is not intended for medical diagnosis. Additionally, the watch offers monthly tracking of breathing quality during sleep by analyzing patterns over time to identify changes warranting user attention. Google is also developing features to monitor blood pressure and insulin resistance trends through biometric signal analysis, presented as tools for indication rather than medical diagnosis or professional evaluation.
The Pixel Watch 5's AI system, Gemini, receives a major upgrade allowing simple tasks like opening apps and starting timers to function without internet connectivity. The system can also provide more proactive suggestions and integrate deeply with data collected throughout the day. GPS accuracy is enhanced by combining AI-based analysis with Google Maps data. In fitness, Google adds AI-tailored strength training programs that integrate with the watch's health recommendation system.
