Israeli Police Begin Breathalyzer Checks on Watercraft Operators in Eilat

Last Wednesday, Israeli police maritime patrol officers in Eilat conducted proactive enforcement activities in the Gulf of Eilat, detaining three men in their thirties suspected of operating watercraft under the influence of alcohol. This operation follows the recent implementation of a law prohibiting navigation under the influence of alcohol or drugs. For several weeks, maritime patrol units nationwide have been engaged in prevention and public awareness campaigns targeting boat operators. After completing the educational phase, authorities have now intensified enforcement to protect the safety of swimmers and maritime users.

During the Eilat operation, the first suspect, a resident of Shfaram, refused to undergo a breathalyzer test and was detained for investigation. The second, a man from Nazareth around 30 years old, tested positive with a blood alcohol concentration of 483 micrograms per liter of exhaled air. The third, a 30-year-old from Netanya, also tested positive with 403 micrograms per liter. Following the investigation, all three had their boating licenses suspended for 30 days. Once all procedures are complete, their cases will be forwarded to the Ministry of Transport's prosecution department to file charges against them.
