Netanya police officer Yaniv Alkayim killed in line of duty during operation
Advanced Sgt. Maj. Yaniv Alkayim, a 42-year-old police officer from Netanya serving in the Yasam patrol unit, was run over and killed on Thursday during a police operation on Ben Gurion Boulevard in the city. He left behind a wife, four children, his mother, and five brothers and sisters.
Alkayim joined the municipal policing unit in 2016 and later served in the patrol unit at the Netanya station as shift commander. In a statement mourning his death, Israel Police and the Central District said, "Israel Police and the Central District announce with deep sorrow and profound grief the untimely death of...".
His funeral is scheduled for 7:45 p.m. at the military cemetery in Netanya, and it will be open to media coverage with the family's approval. Police also said his name has been cleared for publication after he was killed while performing his duties.
National Security Minister Itamar Ben Gvir also eulogized him on X, saying he was informed with great sorrow of the death of Sgt. Maj. Yaniv Alkayim, who fell while on duty. Ben Gvir said Alkayim served for many years with dedication, first in municipal policing and later as a shift commander in the Netanya patrol unit, and added that he devoted his life to the security of Israel's citizens and sent condolences to his wife, children, mother and family.
