Washington Supports Netanyahu's Political Maneuvering Amid Peace Plan Dispute

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu publicly rejected the new peace framework proposed by U.S. President Donald Trump. However, U.S. officials believe Netanyahu's opposition is influenced by internal political considerations, as Israel approaches elections in two months. According to a Politico report, the White House is willing to allow Netanyahu political flexibility as long as tangible progress is made toward reducing violence in the Gaza Strip.

The American peace plan, led by the "Peace Council" initiative spearheaded by Trump, includes 15 points and demands Hamas disarm and relinquish control in exchange for a full withdrawal of Israeli Defense Forces from Gaza. U.S. officials view Hamas's tentative agreement to disarm as an unprecedented achievement and a critical milestone for the region's security future.

Despite significant challenges, including the transfer of civilian governance in Gaza to a UN-established body, Washington remains cautiously optimistic. The White House prefers to measure progress through small, concrete steps on the ground and continues quiet diplomatic efforts with Jerusalem to ensure Gaza no longer poses a security threat.
