Young Yeshiva Student Battles for Life After Drowning in New Jersey Pool

A 24-year-old yeshiva student from the renowned BMG Yeshiva in Lakewood, New Jersey, is fighting for his life after drowning in a swimming pool on Sunday. The young man, identified as Daniel Baruch ben Hadassah Orit, was rescued from the water in critical condition and remains in intensive care, sedated and on a ventilator, requiring extensive prayers for recovery. Following a rabbinical directive, the name Baruch was added to his original name as a spiritual remedy, and his family has called on the public to pray fervently for his full and speedy healing.

In response to the grave situation, a central prayer gathering was held on Sunday evening at the Ozer Yonah study hall in Lakewood, drawing hundreds of yeshiva students and community members to pray for Daniel's recovery. The BMG Yeshiva is one of the largest and most prominent Torah institutions in the United States, with thousands of students, and the news of the drowning has deeply affected the community.

The incident comes amid a series of recent drowning tragedies within the Orthodox Jewish community during the "bein hazmanim" vacation period. Just days earlier, four-year-old Shalom Sagner, grandson of Rabbi Shalom Arush, died from drowning in a pool in Mexico, and a 12-year-old boy died after his boat capsized in the Jordan River near Yesod HaMa'ala. The community continues to organize around-the-clock prayer vigils, hoping for a miracle and Daniel's full recovery.
