Israeli Ambassador Danny Danon Defends West Bank Settlements at UN Security Council

Israeli Ambassador to the United Nations Danny Danon addressed the UN Security Council during a session focused on the issue of settlements in the West Bank. Speaking on Wednesday night, Danon emphasized the permanence and legitimacy of Jewish communities in Judea and Samaria, stating, "We are not going anywhere." He described the settlements not as temporary outposts or obstacles to peace, but as established homes, families, and strong communities, highlighting the historical and spiritual connection of the Jewish people to the land.

Danon criticized the Security Council for what he called a biased approach in its discussions. He accused the council of focusing disproportionately on what it terms "settler violence" while ignoring numerous Palestinian terrorist attacks. According to Danon, the council unfairly stigmatizes the entire Israeli public when incidents involve Israelis, whereas it only condemns the individual perpetrators when Palestinians commit attacks. He concluded by calling this approach unjust and prejudiced.
