Rambam Doctor Defends Medical Staff Amid Allegations of Mistreatment of Wounded Soldiers

Dr. Nitzan Shmueli, a physician at Rambam Hospital who treated four soldiers injured in a Lebanon border incident, publicly defended her colleagues against severe accusations of improper treatment of wounded soldiers. In a rare post, she described the intensive care provided by the hospital’s medical and nursing teams, emphasizing their dedication, compassion, and professionalism in saving lives around the clock. Shmueli expressed distress over the inflammatory and racist online discourse, stating the gap between these false claims and the reality is deeply offensive and troubling. She also related personally to the families’ pain, noting her father is a disabled IDF veteran, but condemned any justification of racism or incitement.

The controversy follows widespread criticism of Rambam Hospital’s handling of injured soldiers, but the hospital’s management has professionally reviewed and rejected the complaints. Today, Moshe Bar Siman Tov, Director-General of the Ministry of Health, visited Rambam Hospital to meet with families of the wounded soldiers, hospital leadership, and medical teams. He fully backed the hospital staff, highlighting their commitment to saving lives and easing suffering as a noble mission. Bar Siman Tov underscored that the coexistence of all sectors of Israeli society within the healthcare system is not a burden but a strength and an ideal model for the entire country. Since the war’s outbreak, Rambam has treated hundreds of injured soldiers, many in critical condition, and the Ministry of Health chief expressed complete trust in the hospital’s care for every patient.
