Hundreds Mourn Eldar Dayan in Eilat, Rejecting Negative Portrayals

Hundreds of family members, friends, and residents of Eilat gathered on Tuesday evening to mourn Eldar Dayan at the city cemetery following weeks of searching that ended in tragedy. Dayan's relatives used the funeral to honor his memory as they knew him: a beloved young man full of life and kindness, countering public portrayals that they said were unfair. Eldar grew up in Eilat and left behind a large family including parents, siblings, and grandparents, all deeply affected by the loss.

In emotional eulogies, his aunt Hagar expressed the family's pain and frustration, stating, "You were not a criminal or offender. You were our beloved child, handsome with kind eyes and innocence, full of joy and love for the sea and people." She lamented the cruelty of his death and the fact that he never had the chance to clear his name. Another cousin, Efrat, also tearfully rejected the negative image painted of Eldar, recalling his unforgettable smile and the cherished times spent together with family.

The family concluded the farewell by emphasizing their wish that Eldar be remembered as the loving son and friend he truly was, whose life was cut short too soon, leaving a profound void in their hearts.
