Ramat Gan Woman Assaulted in Street Attack by Known Serial Harasser

A resident of Ramat Gan, Sivan Ben Giat, recounted a violent assault she and her friend experienced outside a local kiosk, highlighting ongoing harassment by a known serial offender in the neighborhood. The attacker spat at her friend from close range, prompting the kiosk owner to intervene and police to be called, though they arrived 40 minutes later. Ben Giat explained that the man has been a source of fear in the community for years, with complaints against him dating back to 1997, and that his behavior has grown increasingly violent over time.

The incident underscores a persistent sense of insecurity among residents, especially women, who feel vulnerable in public spaces. Ben Giat expressed her disappointment and fear, stating she is now actively seeking to move out despite having chosen to live in the area for safety reasons.

In response, the Ramat Gan municipality announced increased patrols near the intersection of Yarden and Negba streets to deter such incidents and improve public safety. They emphasized that all assaults must be reported to the Israeli police, who hold exclusive enforcement authority. The police confirmed they located and arrested the suspect, who was detained following an investigation and is scheduled for a court hearing.
