Defense Minister Katz's Campaign Video Risks Undermining IDF's International Standing

Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz released a controversial campaign video titled "Boom Boom Boom" ahead of the Likud party primaries, portraying the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) as a politicized tool executing unchecked military force. The video highlights Katz's claims of achievements in Judea and Samaria, including establishing 104 new settlements, recognizing 160 agricultural farms, canceling administrative detention orders against settlers, reinforcing settlements in the Jordan Valley, and reducing terrorism by approximately 80%. Katz also mentioned the evacuation of around 40,000 residents from terror camps in Jenin, Tulkarm, and Nur al-Shams, while maintaining IDF presence in these areas.

The IDF regularly conducts operations in the West Bank, such as recent arrests in Balata camp and Qalandiya, and daily presence in various locations, including the Kasbah of Nablus. However, critics argue that Katz's messaging politicizes the military and depicts Israel as employing excessive and uncontrolled military power, which could fuel international criticism and provide ammunition to Israel's adversaries and the International Criminal Court.

Military sources emphasize that such political use of the IDF is inappropriate and risks damaging the army's reputation and the safety of its soldiers abroad. As the Likud primaries approach, more campaign videos featuring Katz are expected, raising concerns about the cumulative impact on Israel's international image and the IDF's operational integrity.
