Maccabi Sha'arayim and Hapoel Marmorek Merge to Form Ironi Rehovot Football Club

In a historic development for the city of Rehovot, Maccabi Sha'arayim and Hapoel Marmorek officially merged on August 10 to create a new football club named Ironi Rehovot. This new team will compete in Liga Alef, taking over Hapoel Marmorek's spot in the league. The club will play its home games at the city's new stadium. Despite the merger, both original clubs will continue to exist and compete under their traditional names in Liga Gimel, playing at the Weissgal synthetic grass field in Rehovot. However, these teams will no longer be eligible for promotion beyond Liga Gimel. Additionally, all youth divisions in the city will now operate exclusively under the Ironi Rehovot name.

The agreement, finalized in the presence of Rehovot's mayor, Matan Dil, is subject to approval by the Israel Football Association. The merger was driven by financial difficulties that made it unsustainable for both clubs to continue independently in Liga Alef. The primary goal of the unification is to provide a clear pathway for local youth players to advance to a senior city team competing at higher levels, ideally in the Premier League or at least the National League.
