Israel Women's Soccer Team Faces Switzerland in 2027 World Cup Playoff in Brazil

The Israel women's national soccer team has qualified for the European playoff stage for the 2027 FIFA Women's World Cup, which will be held in Brazil. The tournament, scheduled to begin on June 24, 2027, will be the tenth edition of the Women's World Cup and the last to feature 32 teams before expanding to 48 in 2031.

Israel secured a spot in the playoff's second path, designated for tier B teams, after finishing third in Group 3 of that tier. Their first-round opponent will be Switzerland, which topped Group 2 in the same tier. The playoff matches will be played over two legs, home and away, in October 2026. Winners will advance to a second round in November and December, where they will face winners from the first path, which includes higher-ranked teams. Another chance to qualify will be available through an intercontinental playoff for teams that do not qualify directly.

So far, four European teams, Denmark, France, Spain, and Germany, have already qualified directly by winning their groups. Alongside host Brazil, other confirmed participants include North Korea from Asia and Algeria, Morocco, Cameroon, and Malawi from Africa.

The 2027 Women's World Cup matches will take place across eight stadiums in Brazil, all of which were venues for the 2014 Men's World Cup. The largest stadium is the iconic Maracanã in Rio de Janeiro, with a capacity of 78,838 seats, which has hosted both a men's World Cup final and an Olympic women's final.
