Israeli Police Arrest Suspects in Electricity Company Fraud Scheme Involving 5 Million Shekels

The Israeli Police's Fraud Unit in the Haifa district arrested a key suspect over the weekend in a fraud case involving several employees of the Israel Electric Corporation (IEC). The suspected financial damage is estimated at around 5 million shekels. On Monday, a court extended the main suspect's detention by an additional four days to continue the investigation.

The case emerged from a covert police investigation conducted over recent months, which only became public last weekend with the arrest of multiple suspects, including the central figure. According to the allegations, the main suspect collaborated with other IEC employees in an illegal scheme to settle third-party electricity debts in exchange for illicit financial benefits.

The suspects are believed to have exploited their access to the company's billing and collection systems to cancel or adjust customer debts unlawfully, receiving payments or other benefits in return. The police have not disclosed the total number of suspects, the identities of the other employees involved, or detailed information about the operation of the fraudulent mechanism.

The Israel Electric Corporation has not yet publicly commented on the case. However, the company stated that its security division detected the suspected embezzlement, conducted a covert investigation, and handed over all information to the police, cooperating fully throughout the process.
