Former Beitar Jerusalem Star Highlights Key Signing Needed for Team

Itzik Kornfein, former Beitar Jerusalem player, spoke on 103fm sports program about the team's 2-1 loss to Austria Vienna in the Conference League qualifiers. He praised Beitar's squad quality but emphasized the need for more match fitness and playing time. Kornfein noted that Beitar played well in the first half and should have led 2-0 before conceding goals, but he remains optimistic about advancing.

Regarding coach Almog Cohen's decision to bench stars Omer Atzili and Yarden Shua, Kornfein explained it was a tactical move to inject freshness early in the season, not a leadership challenge. He commended Cohen as an excellent coach who understands the players' physical limits.

Kornfein analyzed Beitar's high-press style, warning it risks defensive gaps if possession is lost. He pointed out that defender Gadrani is not yet fully fit, but pairing him with Carballi strengthens the defense. Kornfein believes Beitar has not finished strengthening their squad and needs another reinforcement alongside Boris Ano.

On the attacking front, Kornfein praised the forward line including Weissman, Kalo, Ansa, Atzili, and Shua, calling it a championship-level group with six to seven very good players. He stressed the importance of finding the right balance within this diverse and productive frontline.
