Former Coach Saraf Criticizes Maccabi Tel Aviv’s Squad After Heavy Loss to CSKA Sofia

Following Maccabi Tel Aviv's 3-0 defeat to CSKA Sofia, former coach and Sports Channel analyst Shlomo Saraf expressed serious concerns about the team's readiness for the upcoming Israeli Premier League season. Saraf described the current squad as only worthy of competing for seventh or eighth place, citing weaknesses in defense, midfield, and attack. He specifically criticized players Shahar Rozen and Itay Ben Hamo as unfit to start for Maccabi Tel Aviv and questioned Dor Peretz's ability to consistently score.

Saraf emphasized the need for a thorough internal review and squad strengthening, stating that the current player quality is insufficient for championship contention. Regarding striker Said Abu Farhi, Saraf suggested that while he is a decent forward, he does not meet Maccabi's needs and recommended the club sell him to gain financial benefit.

On the situation with Roy Revivo, Saraf acknowledged the player's past contributions and advised fans not to blame him despite his reluctance to play. He speculated that Revivo might be disappointed with the club due to a failed transfer abroad last season and urged management to encourage him to finish his tenure positively, drawing a parallel to a similar case with Kings Kangwa at Hapoel Be'er Sheva.

Saraf concluded that the team’s poor performance against CSKA Sofia highlights systemic issues within the squad and that Maccabi Tel Aviv is currently unprepared for the league competition.
