Two Tiberias residents, ages 54 and 61, were arrested after allegedly breaking into a local business at night and stealing merchandise and cash worth thousands of shekels. Police said one suspect was caught while still inside the shop trying to hide banknotes in the toilet cistern.

According to the police, the break-in was reported on Friday afternoon, May 16, 2026. Northern District officers were dispatched immediately, set up roadblocks, and began extensive searches in the area. Both suspects were found and arrested shortly afterward.

Investigators said the pair entered through a rear window, took hundreds of cigarette cartons, other tobacco products, and cash, and then tried to flee. When officers arrived, one suspect rushed into the restroom and attempted to stash money inside the cistern, but police searched the premises and recovered the cash.

At the end of the investigation, the Tiberias North prosecution unit filed an indictment in Tiberias Magistrate’s Court against both men. The charges include burglary, theft, intentional property damage, and obstruction of justice. Police said, “Israel Police will continue to act decisively against property criminals, locate them quickly, and bring them to justice, for the safety of the public and its property.”
