Turkey Compares New Defense Pact with Saudi Arabia and Pakistan to NATO's Article 5

Turkey's Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan stated that the recently signed defense agreement between Turkey, Saudi Arabia, and Pakistan is technically equivalent to NATO's Article 5. This article stipulates that an attack on one member is considered an attack on all members. Fidan explained that the pact will include a ministerial committee and a general secretariat, similar to NATO's structure. He emphasized that Iran is not the target of this defense alliance, clarifying that no country is considered a threat unless it attacks one of the member states.
