Palestinians Smuggle New ATVs into Gaza Under IDF Watch, Prompting Military Probe

Palestinians have successfully smuggled brand-new all-terrain vehicles (ATVs) into the Gaza Strip, evading detection by the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) along the Gaza border. The vehicles were publicly displayed in Deir al-Balah, where Palestinians were seen performing stunts with them, according to military sources reported by Walla on Friday. The IDF confirmed that no authorization was given for the transfer of these ATVs and that the incident is currently under investigation.

It was conclusively determined that the ATVs did not enter Gaza through the official Kerem Shalom crossing but rather through gaps in the border fence monitored by the IDF and the military police. Recent criticism has been directed at the military police in the Gaza Division for insufficiently scrutinizing the entry and exit of civilian contractors and military personnel at some fence gates. Additionally, there is a lack of enforcement against reckless driving along the border roads.

A security official stated that the Gaza Division needs to strengthen enforcement efforts alongside the military police. The official noted that soldiers are often found sitting in police vehicles with air conditioning instead of thoroughly inspecting every vehicle crossing the border. When questioned about their role at the gates, the soldiers reportedly claim their duty is to prevent looting on the Palestinian side rather than conducting vehicle inspections.
