Former Players Criticize Roy Revivo's Handling of Maccabi Tel Aviv Departure

Ahead of Maccabi Tel Aviv's Europa League qualifier against CSKA Sofia, former players discussed Roy Revivo's future on Radio 103fm's sports program. Dedi Ben Dayan, a former left-back for Maccabi Tel Aviv, praised Revivo's career development but criticized his approach to separating from the club. Ben Dayan said Revivo should have maintained professionalism by attending training and matches while letting his agent handle negotiations, rather than resorting to a strike or skipping training sessions. He added that Revivo's offensive contributions were a key factor for Maccabi Tel Aviv and warned the club would face difficulties if he leaves.

Gili Vermut expressed understanding for Revivo's frustration, recalling a similar situation when Copenhagen wanted to sign him but Maccabi forced him to stay. Vermut supported the idea that if a player is held against their will, skipping training might be justified. He also noted that Revivo has outgrown the Israeli league and that his departure is expected. Regarding Maccabi's current squad, Vermut commented that it is weaker than the team that finished last season, as the club is losing star players. While he acknowledged the club's success in developing and selling talent, including homegrown players, he believes the current lineup is insufficiently strong.
