Sheba Medical Center Joins World’s Greenest Hospitals List for 2026

Sheba Medical Center in Israel has been recognized as the only Israeli hospital included in the World’s Greenest Hospitals 2026 ranking, compiled by Newsweek and research firm Statista. The ranking evaluates hospitals worldwide on their commitment to environmental responsibility and reducing ecological impact. Key criteria include greenhouse gas emissions, energy efficiency, water and waste management, responsible procurement, corporate governance, and long-term sustainability strategies.

In recent years, Sheba has led a strategic sustainability program involving mapping greenhouse gas emissions, setting a net-zero emissions target by 2050, reducing resource consumption, promoting responsible purchasing, and integrating ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) principles into its organizational governance. The hospital publishes an annual ESG report and has been ranked in the Maala ESG index for corporate responsibility, achieving the highest Platinum Plus rating this year.

Professor Yitzhak Kreiss, director of Sheba Medical Center, emphasized the dual responsibility of healthcare systems to provide excellent care today while ensuring a healthy environment for future generations. He stated that the hospital’s future excellence is measured not only by clinical innovation and research but also by its environmental and social responsibilities. This commitment is integral to Sheba’s definition of medical excellence rather than a separate or temporary initiative.
