American Businessman Jason Levine Set to Acquire Half of Recanati Family's Shares in Maccabi Tel Aviv
Jason Levine, an American businessman with extensive experience in international sports ownership, is poised to purchase 29 percent of Maccabi Tel Aviv's shares from the Recanati family. This deal, valued at 50 million euros, involves shares that the Recanati family recently acquired from the Federman family about three weeks ago. Levine has been awaiting a final response for several weeks, and recent indications suggest the Recanati family will agree to the sale. Once officially announced, existing shareholders will have 30 days to object or buy the shares at the same price.
Previously, the Recanati family opposed a move led by the Federman family to sell half their shares to Eric Stillman. Instead, they exercised their right to purchase the 29 percent stake from the Federmans for 50 million dollars. Levine, born in 1973, is CEO and co-owner of the MLS team DC United and CEO of the Australian basketball team Brisbane Bullets. He has also held ownership stakes in the NBA's Memphis Grizzlies and was part of the investment group that acquired Philadelphia in 2011. From 2016 to 2024, he was a co-owner of Swansea City football club. His net worth has been estimated at over 290 million dollars.
Eric Stillman revealed on the recent episode of "Double Dribble" that he offered 120 million dollars to buy the entire Recanati family stake, promising to inject 30 million dollars into the club without diluting other shareholders. Levine's acquisition marks a significant development in Maccabi Tel Aviv's ownership structure and could influence the club's future direction.
