IDF Urges Stronger Response to Hezbollah Violations in Lebanon Amid Rising Tensions

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) have called on the political leadership to adopt a tougher stance following Hezbollah's breach of the ceasefire in southern Lebanon. This escalation came after a Hezbollah-planted explosive device killed two Israeli reservists and wounded four others near the village of Majdal Zoun. In response, the IDF issued an unusual evacuation warning for the Lebanese village of al-Mansouri, located within the IDF-controlled zone in southern Lebanon, and launched airstrikes against Hezbollah targets.

The renewed hostilities have disrupted ongoing peace negotiations between Israel and Lebanon in Rome, which ended earlier than planned due to the escalation. The IDF accuses the Lebanese army of violating the ceasefire agreement by allowing civilians to enter al-Mansouri, contrary to the terms of the truce. Security officials criticized the Lebanese military for its ineffective actions in clearing Hezbollah infrastructure from the area, describing their efforts as superficial and deceptive, a situation noted by American observers.

The two fallen soldiers were identified as Captain Harel Birnstok, 34, from Nokedim, and Major Tamir Vaknin, 33, from Eilat. Both left behind families. The IDF is currently awaiting political directives on how to proceed with its response to Hezbollah's provocations. The incident marks a significant deterioration in the northern border's security situation after weeks of relative calm.
