IDF Urges Stronger Response to Hezbollah Violations in Lebanon Amid Rising Tensions

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) have recommended to the political leadership a tougher response to Hezbollah's recent violations of the ceasefire in southern Lebanon. This follows an attack in which two Israeli reservists, Lt. Colonel Harel Birnstok, 34, from Nokedim, and Lt. Colonel Tamir Vaknin, 33, from Eilat, were killed by an explosive device. Four other soldiers were seriously injured when the device detonated near their unit in the Majdal Zun area. In retaliation, the IDF launched airstrikes against Hezbollah targets in southern Lebanon.

The escalation led to the early termination of ongoing negotiations between Israel and Lebanon in Rome. The IDF issued an unusual evacuation warning for the village of Al-Mansouri, located within the IDF-controlled zone in southern Lebanon. The military accused the Lebanese army of violating the ceasefire agreement by allowing civilians to enter the village, contrary to the terms of the accord.

Security officials sharply criticized the Lebanese army's handling of the situation, accusing it of superficial efforts to clear Hezbollah infrastructure from the area. "They are doing work for appearances, just stalling," said sources, noting that the United States is aware of the Lebanese army's inadequate actions. The IDF is currently awaiting political decisions on how to proceed amid the heightened tensions on the northern border.
