Israeli Police Complete Investigation Into Shas Party Newspaper Funding Misuse

The National Fraud Investigations Unit (Yahch"a) of Lahav 433 has concluded its probe into the Shas party's newspaper, "HaDerech." The investigation focused on suspicions involving Knesset member Chaim Biton, who also served as CEO of the Maayan Torah Education Network, procurement manager Moshe Avitan, and other officials connected to the newspaper. Authorities examined allegations that public funds intended for education were improperly used to finance the newspaper. The suspected offenses include fraud, breach of trust, receiving property by deception, theft or attempted theft, false corporate documentation, and violations of money laundering laws. The case file has now been forwarded to the Tax and Economic Prosecution for review and decision on further action.
