El Al Reports 100% Net Profit Surge in Q2 Despite Operational Losses

El Al Airlines reported a 27% increase in revenue for the second quarter of the year, reaching $986 million compared to the same period last year. Despite operational challenges, the company achieved a net profit attributable to shareholders of $132.1 million, doubling the profit from the previous year's second quarter. This result is notable given that the figures include a $55 million loss incurred during the nine-day "Roaring Tiger" operation, which ended early in the quarter. Excluding these losses, El Al's net profit would have approached $190 million for the quarter. The airline had previously experienced its first loss in three years during the first quarter, largely due to the same operational disruptions. The company emphasized its focus on serving quality-of-life needs for residents of Eilat rather than competing with platforms like Airbnb.
