Sharren Haskel’s Spokesman Resigns Amid Allegations of Directed Lies in State Comptroller Election Scandal

Sharren Haskel, an Israeli Knesset member, is embroiled in controversy following the resignation of her spokesman, who stepped down amid allegations that she instructed him to provide false information to the media. The resignation came shortly after new developments in the secret ballot election for the State Comptroller position, where it was alleged that instructions were given to record the vote, violating the secret ballot rules.

According to Channel 13 News reporter Michael Shemesh, the spokesman claimed Haskel repeatedly ordered him to disseminate inaccurate information to journalists. Neither the spokesman nor Haskel’s office responded to these allegations. The scandal intensified after Haskel submitted a sworn statement denying involvement in the directive to record the vote and implicated fellow party member Knesset member Michel Buskila as responsible.

Haskel sent a legal warning letter denying the claims, but journalist Avishai Greenzeit later reported that she did mention Buskila’s name during police questioning, contradicting her public denials. The spokesman’s resignation reportedly followed the emerging discrepancies between Haskel’s public statements and her testimony to investigators. This case has sparked political turmoil as authorities and political figures seek to uncover who authorized the breach of voting secrecy and the extent of involvement by various parties.
