Shin Bet Chief Blocks Administrative Detention Orders Against Jewish Nationalist Suspects

The Shin Bet has revisited the debate over issuing administrative detention orders against Jewish suspects involved in nationalist crimes. According to a report by Channel 13 News, despite support for the measure from field operatives, Shin Bet chief David Zini chose not to approve the move. Sources within the Shin Bet and law enforcement agencies indicated that Zini believes such cases can be managed through other means without resorting to administrative detention orders. The Shin Bet declined to comment on internal disagreements, stating they would not address discussions among professional staff within the service. This issue has resurfaced following a decision about two years ago when then-Defense Minister Israel Katz halted the use of administrative detention orders against settlers in the West Bank, a move considered exceptional at the time.
