Haredi Public Faction Demands Political Representation From Ultra-Orthodox Parties by Friday

Moti Leitner, chairman of the Haredi Public faction, sent a stern letter to the leaders of the ultra-Orthodox parties Shas and United Torah Judaism, demanding clear answers regarding the faction's political representation requests. Leitner set a deadline for a response by Friday, warning that if no reply is received, the faction's leadership will convene with rabbis and community representatives to decide on future steps.

In the letter, Leitner expressed frustration that repeated attempts over recent months to engage in dialogue with party heads Aryeh Deri (Shas), Moshe Gafni (Degel HaTorah), and Yitzhak Goldknopf (Agudat Yisrael) have been ignored. He emphasized that tens of thousands of Haredim feel unrepresented and are considering abstaining from voting or supporting non-Haredi parties in upcoming elections.

Leitner criticized the ultra-Orthodox party leadership for responding with disdain and baseless accusations instead of engaging constructively. He stressed that the demand for representation stems from broad communal and ethical needs, not just political motives. The faction's letter highlights key issues including protection for yeshiva students, appropriate military service arrangements for those not studying full-time, promotion of quality employment, vocational training, basic education for children, and securing economic stability for Haredi families.

The letter concludes with an ultimatum: without a response by Friday, the faction will meet with rabbis and community leaders to determine its course of action. Leitner affirmed the faction's desire for unity and genuine partnership but insisted on securing Haredi representation in the next Knesset.
