Maccabi Haifa Debuts Goalkeeper Glen Alvin in Starting Lineup Against Tiberias

Maccabi Haifa introduced 19-year-old goalkeeper Glen Alvin in their starting lineup for the Toto Cup match against Tiberias on August 4, 2026. Alvin, who began his football journey at Nesher before joining Haifa's youth system at age 11, is currently the club's third-choice goalkeeper but stepped up due to injuries to senior keepers. This match marked his second appearance with the senior team, having previously replaced Omri Glazer during a Toto Cup game against Kiryat Shmona.

Alvin, standing 1.92 meters tall, initially lost his youth starting position to Itay Mordechai this season and was called up to the army, which affected his playing time. Despite this, he was part of Haifa's successful youth Champions League campaign and played in the opening match against Austria Vienna. In his senior debut, Alvin conceded a goal but earned praise for preventing a heavier defeat as Kiryat Shmona took 11 shots on target, with Alvin making seven saves.

Maccabi Haifa is actively seeking a more experienced second-choice goalkeeper to back up Omri Glazer, who is recovering from injury and expected to return for the league opener. Alvin is viewed as a promising talent with strong instincts and mental resilience, though the club aims to avoid rushing his development by exposing him to too much pressure too soon. He has also represented Israel at the under-17 level under coach Gadi Bromer.

Following the return of Glazer and the signing of another goalkeeper, Alvin is expected to resume his role as the third-choice keeper, a position previously held by Roy Fox before his retirement. The club has occasionally included Alvin on the bench to meet sports ministry incentives encouraging youth player integration. His performance against Kiryat Shmona was a rare bright spot in an otherwise poor showing by Maccabi Haifa.
