IDF Chief Limits Strikes in Gaza Following Peace Council's Call to Halt Assassinations

IDF Chief of Staff Eyal Zamir recently ordered a restriction on military strikes in the Gaza Strip, according to sources in the Southern Command. This decision follows a declaration by the Peace Council urging Israel to stop targeted killings in Gaza. The IDF states the move aligns with directives from the political echelon. While forces in Gaza retain the authority to neutralize immediate threats, any targeted elimination of militants linked to the October 7 attacks will require Zamir's prior approval.

Yesterday, Kan News reported that the IDF plans to present three key conditions regarding the 15-point ceasefire agreement announced by the Peace Council over the weekend. These demands will be discussed in a meeting with Zamir tomorrow. The first condition calls for full operational freedom to neutralize emerging threats in Gaza, emphasizing the need to continue thwarting militants considered "ticking bombs." The IDF also insists on external oversight of weapons in Gaza, opposing the agreement's provision for internal Palestinian supervision under the technocratic government expected to replace Hamas.

The most contentious demand from the IDF is its rejection of any partial or phased withdrawal until Hamas is fully disarmed, contradicting the agreement's phased withdrawal plan. These military demands will be forwarded to the political leadership for final decisions. Meanwhile, reports indicate Hamas has begun distributing personal weapons to its members within Gaza, signaling preparations amid the ongoing conflict.
