Israel's Youth Handball Team Beats Montenegro, Advances in World Championship Rankings

Israel's youth handball team achieved a significant victory by defeating Montenegro 31-27, advancing to the 9-16 placement matches in the World Championship. This win brings them just one victory away from a historic qualification for the 2027 World Championship, as the top 15 teams in this tournament will qualify for next summer's event. The team has already been joined by the junior squad, which secured its spot in the 2027 championship.

The match was competitive from the start, with Israel initially trailing but then taking a lead through goals by Givon Dagani and Rom Tobis. Montenegro repeatedly fought back, but Jonathan Pelech, the team's star player, helped maintain Israel's advantage, leading to a halftime score of 15-13. In the second half, Israel started strong, with goalkeeper Amit Maroz playing significant minutes. Despite a brief period where Montenegro equalized at 21-21, Pelech and Roi Ganal scored crucial goals to restore Israel's lead.

In the final minutes, Pelech scored to make it 28-25, followed by goals from Itai Gorvitz and others, securing the victory and sparking celebrations. Pelech was the top scorer with 14 goals, supported by Dagani (4), Gorvitz (3), Tomer Michalis (3), Tobis (2), Nevo Mesika (2), Ganal (1), Noam Levi (1), and Ido Malul (1).
