Maccabi Haifa Owner Initiates Tactical Shift Back to 4-3-3 After Toto Cup Losses

Maccabi Haifa began their season with two surprising defeats in the Toto Cup against Hapoel Haifa and Ironi Kiryat Shmona. Although the Toto Cup is primarily a testing ground for strategies, these results prompted a significant tactical reassessment within the club. The team decided to abandon the three-center-back formation used during the Toto Cup in favor of returning to the traditional 4-3-3 setup.

Nir Klinger revealed on "Yetzia HaItonut" that the club's owner, Yaakov Shahar, played a direct role in this decision. According to Klinger, Shahar engaged in discussions with the coaching staff, including Barak Bakhar and Lior Refaelov, leading to a consensus that the previous system was ineffective. Klinger noted that the team should have scored six or seven goals against Kiryat Shmona, highlighting the tactical shortcomings.

Klinger emphasized that for the 4-3-3 formation to succeed, Maccabi Haifa needs two dominant wingers, as the current squad construction is insufficient. The club plans to strengthen these positions to improve performance. This strategic shift aims to better align the team's style with its strengths as the Israeli Premier League season progresses.
