Israeli Finance Committee Approves 270 Million Shekels for Haredi Community Funding

The Israeli Finance Committee is set to approve approximately 270 million shekels in budget transfers today during a marathon session. These funds are part of coalition budget allocations aimed at supporting various initiatives within the Haredi community. Among the approved transfers are 26.1 million shekels for a program to prevent dropout in yeshivas, 16.1 million shekels to increase subsidies for after-school programs in Haredi institutions, and 12.5 million shekels to support Haredi Jewish cultural activities. Additionally, 15.2 million shekels will be allocated to expand support for Torah institutions operating in the Gaza border area (Otef Aza).

The Supreme Court (Bagatz) is scheduled to review all 40 budget transfers approved by the committee tomorrow, scrutinizing the legality and appropriateness of these allocations. This judicial review follows the committee's approval of these coalition-driven budget moves, which have been a subject of public and political debate.
