German Police Investigate Airsoft Shooting at Historic Jewish Cemetery

German police are investigating an incident involving airsoft gunfire at a historic Jewish cemetery in Langenselbold, Hesse. The event occurred shortly after 7 p.m. last Saturday when a witness reported seeing a group of young people shooting at gravestones. Police arrived and found five youths matching the description near the site; one fled on foot but was quickly located. A 15-year-old boy was identified as a suspect based on witness statements.

An inspection revealed damage to one gravestone, estimated at around 500 euros. Authorities are examining the case under suspicions of property damage and disturbing the peace of the dead. The Langenselbold Jewish cemetery dates back to the late 18th century and contains many historic graves. Police noted that only one gravestone has been confirmed damaged so far, but other damage may be difficult to detect due to the small size of airsoft pellets.

Officials stated there is currently no evidence of extremist or political motives, suggesting the incident may have been a "bad joke." All five youths were released after questioning by police. The investigation continues to determine the full extent of the damage and circumstances surrounding the event.
