Israeli Advocate Challenges Global Anti-Israel Sentiment Through Online Debates

Dave Azulai, a former Israeli soldier suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder, has taken it upon himself to counter global anti-Israel narratives through direct online engagement. Since the October 7 attacks, he has been confronting anti-Israel and antisemitic rhetoric on platforms like Omegle, using historical facts, international law, and religious texts to refute accusations such as genocide and apartheid. Azulai’s efforts have gained significant traction, with his social media following growing to 78,000.

Azulai’s activism began during his time confined in a safe room amid Operation Claw against Iran, where he started engaging strangers online to combat hatred toward Israel. He openly displays his Jewish identity and prepares extensively, learning new facts daily to support his arguments. His impact has extended even to Israeli prisons, where a guard reported using Azulai’s arguments and Quranic verses to challenge Palestinian prisoners, including Marwan Barghouti.

Despite his success, Azulai criticizes the Israeli government for lacking a coordinated public diplomacy effort and calls for official support and funding for activists like himself. He believes that educating people about history and truth is key to reducing hatred and hopes to eventually dedicate himself full-time to public diplomacy, either through government or media organizations. Azulai also translates his content into Hebrew to strengthen Israeli self-defense in public discourse.

The rise in global anti-Israel sentiment, including calls for arms embargoes and legal actions against Israeli leaders, underscores the importance of such grassroots efforts. Azulai’s story highlights the role of individual citizens in filling the void left by official channels in Israel’s information war.
