Cybersecurity Group Exposes Viral Antisemitic Lies Blaming Jews for European Wildfires

The organization CyberVol has identified a surge of antisemitic posts across social media platforms in English, French, and Spanish falsely accusing Jews of deliberately starting massive wildfires in Europe. These narratives appeared following recent fires in Norway, France, and Spain, with one post alone surpassing two million views on X (formerly Twitter). CyberVol warns that this pattern of event-driven antisemitism exploits crises to spread hatred against Jewish communities.

Analysts at CyberVol noted that these conspiracy theories claim Jews orchestrated the fires for political or economic gain, echoing similar falsehoods seen after the 2025 Los Angeles wildfires and earlier fires in Patagonia. The posts often incorporate classic antisemitic motifs, including calls for Jewish expulsion and dehumanizing imagery like the "Happy Merchant" caricature. This trend is part of a broader phenomenon where antisemitic conspiracies quickly attach themselves to various crises, from disease outbreaks to violent incidents.

CyberVol emphasizes that these narratives align with the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance's (IHRA) working definition of antisemitism, which includes collective blame and conspiratorial claims of Jewish control. The group urges technology platforms to enhance detection tools targeting recurring antisemitic themes, enforce policies consistently, and collaborate with civil society organizations to combat online hate. They stress that early identification of such trends is crucial to prevent their normalization.

The organization warns that baseless conspiracies have repeatedly led to targeted violence against Jewish communities worldwide, concluding that "the writing is already on the wall, and it is etched in blood." CyberVol calls on major tech companies to take stronger action to curb the spread of these dangerous lies and protect vulnerable populations.
