Hostage Survivor Eli Sharabi Accuses Politicians of Downplaying October 7 Massacre

Eli Sharabi, a survivor of captivity, sharply criticized recent political statements regarding the October 7 massacre, accusing some of deliberately trying to diminish the tragedy's significance. Speaking on the Kan News program "At Midday" on Reshet Bet, Sharabi suggested that certain political figures are manipulating public discourse to obscure the memory of the event, especially amid the upcoming elections. "Someone is pulling strings to make people forget October 7," he said, emphasizing a strong interest in minimizing the disaster's impact.

Sharabi specifically condemned remarks by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu about weight loss and by Minister Bezalel Smotrich, who claimed credit for the return of hostages. He described these comments as disrespectful to the memory of his loved ones and refused to accept such narratives. "Any public official who claims credit, even when justified, I cannot tolerate," Sharabi stated, adding that many politicians have lost humility and, regrettably, some have lost their sanity.

He also addressed Mansour Abbas, leader of the Ra'am party, criticizing his refusal to label Hamas as a terrorist organization during a recent interview. Sharabi expressed sadness that Abbas, considered one of the more moderate Arab-Israeli politicians, could not make this clear statement, which he said is obvious to the entire world.

Sharabi's remarks come as survivors and families of victims continue to grapple with trauma and political discourse surrounding the October 7 attacks. He reiterated his refusal to meet with Netanyahu, believing no positive outcomes would arise from such a meeting.
