Artificial intelligence (AI) technology has become deeply integrated into daily life, increasingly blurring the lines between reality and digital fabrication. This is especially evident in AI-generated images, which have advanced to a point where distinguishing them from real photos is becoming very challenging. Many people have experienced sharing a striking image only to be told it is AI-generated, prompting the need for guidance on identifying such fakes.
Previously, AI images could be detected by obvious errors like incorrect finger counts, distorted text, or unnatural details. However, newer AI models produce high-quality images that nearly erase these telltale signs. This evolution not only complicates detection but also causes skepticism toward genuine photos, threatening a shared sense of reality.
Experts recommend closely examining small details to identify AI fakes. Common giveaways include irregularities in complex features such as hands, fingers, jewelry, or hair.
