Moria Asraf Condemns Yair Golan's Remarks as Anti-Democratic and Politically Harmful

Moria Asraf, the political correspondent for Channel 13 News, sharply criticized Yair Golan, chairman of the Democratic Party, following his threats to cut funding for the Ali pre-military academy. Speaking on a program with Eyal Berkovich, Asraf expressed concern over Golan's focus on the academy, calling it disturbing and damaging to the political camp Golan aims to lead. She highlighted that Golan's referencing of decade-old statements from senior figures at the Ali academy is troubling, especially given the academy's significant contribution to Israel.

Asraf emphasized that many right-wing and centrist voters who want to replace the current government are deterred by Golan's anti-democratic remarks and disparaging comments toward one of Israel's most service-oriented populations. She presented data showing that 90% of the academy's graduates serve in combat units, with 40% in officer roles, and noted that since the start of the Iron Swords war, 34 graduates have fallen.

Asraf concluded that if Golan intends to target these soldiers and their funding, he and his political camp should be prepared for the consequences. She also revealed that senior figures within the opposition camp share her disgust and fear the political damage Golan's statements could cause. "Not only am I disgusted by these remarks, but many senior opposition members are as well, knowing it will hurt them politically," she said.
