Tricentis Acquires Israeli AI Code Assistant Tabnine to Enhance Autonomous Testing Platform
American software testing and quality assurance giant Tricentis announced its acquisition of Israeli AI company Tabnine, integrating Tabnine's code analysis technology into Tricentis' autonomous testing platform. Although the official deal amount was not disclosed, industry sources estimate it to be in the tens of millions of dollars. Tabnine has raised approximately $55 million since its founding, making this acquisition a moderate exit by Israeli startup standards.
Tricentis serves thousands of enterprise clients worldwide, including T-Mobile, Vodafone, and Jaguar Land Rover, specializing in end-to-end software testing automation and quality control for complex systems. Recently, Tricentis introduced an AI agent-based platform designed to provide deep organizational understanding of code and system architecture, enabling early detection and prevention of defects before production deployment.
The acquisition aims to enhance these AI agents with Tabnine's Enterprise Context Engine, which builds a knowledge graph by scanning codebases and organizational systems. This allows AI agents to autonomously make decisions, assess code changes, and identify risks. Tabnine CEO Dror Weiss emphasized that AI assistants must understand the systems they operate within before making changes, and partnering with Tricentis naturally extends their contextual engine across the software lifecycle.
Founded in 2013 as Codota by Weiss and CTO Prof. Eran Yahav, Tabnine was among the pioneers in applying deep learning to code completion. In 2019, Codota acquired Canadian startup Tabnine, founded by Yaakov Gilbard, adopting its name for the unified company. Over the years, Tabnine raised funds from notable investors including Khosla Ventures, Atlassian Ventures, OurCrowd, and others. Last year, the company shifted its strategic focus exclusively to developing AI solutions tailored for the enterprise market, emphasizing security, privacy, and contextual understanding, accompanied by operational streamlining and workforce reduction.
