Shira Shapira Sets Conditions for Coalition Talks with Mansour Abbas

Shira Shapira, mother of the late Enar Shapira and a leader in the Beit Tzioni faction headed by Yoaz Hendel and Hili Tropper, outlined her party's fundamental principles for forming Israel's next government amid ongoing political speculation. In an interview with Israel Hayom, she emphasized that coalition negotiations should focus on core values rather than personal exclusions of political figures from the extremes. Shapira stated that the goal is to establish a broad Zionist government centered on values such as universal service, partnership, responsibility, respect for the law, and adherence to it. She clarified that any party committed to these principles could be a coalition partner.

When asked about the legitimacy of partners like Itamar Ben-Gvir and Otzma Yehudit or Yair Golan and the Democratic Party, Shapira avoided personal bans and stressed principle-based cooperation. She also ruled out the current coalition format, advocating instead for a government that supports active and reserve soldiers. Regarding the possibility of including the Ra'am party, Shapira was clear that Ra'am cannot be part of a broad Zionist government because it does not uphold these core values. She insisted that the coalition must rely solely on 61 Zionist votes, though non-Zionist parties that accept the government's foundational principles may join, but never as kingmakers.
